Welcome to The Bakehouse Restaurant Penzance
Situated in the most historic street in Penzance, Chapel Street, full of independent shops, restaurants and pubs.
Set back from the main street in our own secluded courtyard, full of fairy lights and palm trees, a three minute walk to the sea.
We are a small family run restaurant, owners, chefs and husband and wife team Kim and Gary took over on Valentines Day 2017. We have kept a small very close-knit team for most of our time here.
We like to keep our menu ever changing so we can keep up with seasonal changes, we also like to only use local suppliers and ingredients. Our meat comes from Harvey Brothers Butchers, which is just up the road from us, our fish and shellfish comes from Celtic Fish and Game who are based in St. Ives, we use Westcountry Fruit and Veg Sales based in Falmouth, and we use Penwithian for our dry ingredients and local beers and drinks which is based in Penzance. We also use Polgoon, Penzance’s very own vineyard, we stock their delicious wines, ciders and juices.
We make everything we can in our tiny kitchen, from ice cream’s and sorbets, sauces and dips, hand cutting chips, all of our desserts, all of our mains, starters and appetisers, what’s the point in serving food you’ve bought in!?
We display artwork from local artists, photography by local photographer Adam Gibbard, and paintings by Kims grandad.
We are family and dog friendly, we have a children’s menu and our furry friends always get a treat, and lots of cuddles!
Lovely welcome, friendly staff, the monkfish starter is the best I’ve ever tasted. Lovely choice of mains, my steak was cooked to perfection. For my pudding and after great deliberation I decided on the lemon tart and was not disappointed, although I did manage to try my partners chocolate nemisis and this was equally as delicious.
Never normally totally satisfied when dining out but I have to say 10/10 from the welcome to the goodbye fantastic service and wonderful food. I was part of a very large group who all of our food came as requested and with out fuss I had the monkfish starter which was superb followed by fillet steak which was stunning.
I have eaten here a few times and it never disappoints. The service is exceptional from calling to book, checking if its an occasion and then making it feel very special on arrival. The owner is always incredibly polite, subtle and goes out of her way to personalise your experience.
Best Steak Ever! Wonderful meal from start to finish. Steak was the best I’ve ever tasted! Service just right. Looking forward to our next visit.
